WRITING COURSES
APLUS Education seeks to provide students with opportunities to focus on the practice and skills of writing.
Compared to mainstream academic English courses taught in school, APLUS Writing Enrichment courses are more demanding and focused. A student who takes the full range of our writing courses will find that the skills taught and practiced in each course are sequential and equip them with a strong toolkit to navigate the succeeding level.
Through these courses, students learn to:
read more challenging literature with greater skill
write more complex and mature compositions
develop independent analytical skills
cultivate disciplined study habits for continued academic success
All students will receive an interim report midway through the course and a final report card the last day of class.

Students will continue to practice writing different types of academic essays, with a specialized focus on developing style and voice in their writing. They will engage in class discussion, read sample exemplar essays, and participate in regular one-on-one student/teacher conferences. Each IEW course builds from the previous course, and content and complexity of argument will develop accordingly.
IEW courses are designed to help students succeed with college-level writing.
Registration Notes: It is highly encouraged for new students to complete a placement test upon registration. Prerequisite: IEW2, or Placement Test.
-
Grades 8-10 | $1,160
In this final course in the IEW series, students will read a variety of non-fiction essays from published authors, deconstruct text, and develop their own essay topics over the course of the year. Students will focus on analyzing text for rhetorical appeals and devices in order to write stylistically and argumentatively complex essays, as well as meet with the instructor regularly to review, revise, and improve their writing.

MATH COURSES
APLUS Education allows students to build a solid foundation for a deeper understanding and mastery of mathematical concepts.
APLUS Math Enrichment courses are more rigorous and targeted compared to regular math courses offered in school. Students who complete the full sequence of our math courses will find that each level builds on the previous one in a logical progression, reinforcing core concepts and equipping them with a set of problem-solving tools for success at the next level.
Through these courses, students learn to:
understand more complex mathematical concepts
master important skills in each topic
develop independent problem-solving skills
establish focused study practices to support long-term academic success
All students will receive an interim report midway through the course and a final report card the last day of class.
-
Grades 3-4 | $950
Students will master basic math skills that work toward building a strong foundation for understanding more challenging concepts later on. The curriculum will be modeled after an MCPS (Montgomery County Public Schools) Compacted Math 4 course, which will include the following modules: Rounding and Algorithms for Addition and Subtraction, Unit Conversions and Problem Solving with Metric Measurement, Multi-Digit Multiplication and Division, Angles and Figures, Fractions, Order of Operations, Decimals, and Measurements with Multiplication.
Registration Notes: It is highly encouraged for new students to complete a placement test upon registration. Depending on student enrollment, a combined class of Math 4/5 may be offered in lieu of Math 4.
-
Grades 4-5 | $950
Students will continue their math journey by demonstrating a solid understanding of Multiplication and Division of Fractions and Decimals, Volume and Area, Word Problems, and Problem Solving with the Coordinate Plane.
Registration Notes: It is highly encouraged for new students to complete a placement test upon registration. Depending on student enrollment, a combined class of Math 4/5 may be offered in lieu of Math 5.
-
Grades 6-7 | $950
Students will gain an introduction to algebraic expressions, writing algebraic expressions from verbal phrases/problems, simplifying algebraic expression and solving one-step equations/inequalities, properties of exponents, scientific notation and operations, and linear relationships.
Registration Notes: It is highly encouraged for new students to complete a placement test upon registration.
-
Grades 7-8 | $950
This is a continuation of Pre-Algebra 1, building on top of what students learned in Pre-Algebra 1. Students will understand proportional relationships, rational number operations, geometric relationships (i.e. measurements, angles), statistics and probability, functional relationships, and linear equations.
Registration Notes: It is highly encouraged for new students to complete a placement test upon registration.
