The seven levels of writing classes at APLUS Learning Center are aimed to provide students with opportunities to focus on the skills and the practice of writing. The programs help students learn:
§ to read more challenging literature with greater skill,
§ to write more complex and mature compositions,
§ to develop independent analytical skills, and
§ to develop disciplined study habits for continued academic success.
In comparison to regular academic school English courses, APLUS writing courses are more demanding, challenging, and focused.
Starting in 2014 Fall, all Math Enrichment classes will be taught in line with MCPS Curriculum 2.0, meaning that the sequence and order of coverage will be in line with MCPS. The Curriculum 2.0 is about the teaching methods, not the contents, in helping students to understand the math concepts. The following courses are offered Saturday mornings from 11:15am-01:15pm and 06:00-08:00pm on Tuesday evenings:
1. Math 4/5
2. Pre Algebra 1 (Math 6)
3. Pre Algebra 2 (I.M.)
4. Algebra 1
6. Algebra 2
Students attending Writing Workshop and Math Enrichment classes are placed based on their ability level. Students therefore are advised to take a placement test to ensure the placement is appropriate.
This class is one of its kind, aiming to provide an opportunity where students can learn and practice SAT in a more focused and thorough way. This class is designated for rising 9th and 10th graders and has a duration of 16 weeks and meets 3 hours per week. With almost double the amount of time of a normal SAT crash course, the materials and coverage of this course are extensive. Students will be well prepared for their SAT test upon completing this course. This SAT1600 is offered on Saturday 09:30am-12:30pm.
